Haileybury - A Report from the Delegates
On the 15th of March, LEH delegates were very excited to start our journey to Haileybury. We arrived at the beautiful school, in awe of the number of delegates and delegations, and after a short opening ceremony, we headed to our different committee rooms where we spent time meeting other delegates and signing resolutions on the topics we were assigned to debate throughout the weekend.
The next day we arrived at Haileybury school, well fed from the breakfast, and we carried on lobbying before moving into debate. Within around 8 hours of debate, within our different committees we passed a plethora of resolutions, such as the use of autonomous weapons, bee populations, and gender equality. Whilst at first we were slightly nervous to speak in front of the large committees, soon we got into the swing of presenting our amendments, speeches and points of information. We enjoyed discussing our relevant and interesting topics. A highlight from the DISEC committee was when the delegate of Belarus had to do push ups in penance for using personal pronouns!
On Sunday, we recommenced debate in our committees, and later on in the afternoon, the General Assembly started. We were excited to discuss the question of the distribution of resources acquired from space, and we were very proud to have made some speeches and raise points of information. To our delight, we were awarded a delegation award, as well as some individual awards, too. Overall, we had a great time and we all feel very lucky to be able to attend such a prestigious conference!
