REIMUN - A MUNderful start to the year

Reigate Grammar School Model United Nations (MUN) Conference

21 LEH pupils, representing the delegations of Belarus, Ukraine, Gabon, Syria, Israel, and Syria took part in the annual Reigate Grammar MUN Conference on Saturday 7th October.

All delegates spoke confidently and convincingly from the perspective of their countries on a host of pertinent topics including the total disarmament of weapons of mass destruction, access to abortion, protecting indigenous communities, illegal trade of medication and the question of intervention in Ukraine. We are pleased to report that 4 of our pupils won awards:

  • Highly Commended Delegate; Environment Committee for Belarus

  • Distinguished Delegate; Health Committee for Israel

  • Best Delegate; Social, Humanitarian & Cultural (SOCHUM) Committee for Israel

  • Best Delegate; Disarmament & Security (DISEC) Committee for Belarus

The importance of diplomacy, tact and persuasion is growing more than ever in an unprecedented world. Opportunities in MUN provide our pupils with an ideal platform in which to develop their oracy and confidence whilst also raising their awareness of current affairs, working collaboratively in their assigned delegations to find solutions to real global issues.

Mr. H Agulian
